At Wood’s Edge

Often, the entrance to the woods looks inviting with the sunlight dappling and dancing on the grasses. The warmth of the sun-kissed bark and the promise of a quiet walk; a respite from the heat of the day. And, that is all true if one doesn’t dare to walk in too deep. You tell yourself, if you can still feel the sun on your back you are safe.

There are those of us that allow the thermocline to creep towards us, allow the chill of the unknown to shake our spines, and choose to shove our hands deeper into our pockets and keep moving forward into a silence that is unquiet.
